Mumbai Indians' unsettled campaign in IPL 2026 has been marked by frequent changes at the top of the order, with the team already using four different opening combinations in their first eight matches of the season.
So far, Mumbai Indians have also used 22 players, the highest among all teams this IPL, underlining their attempts to find the right balance after a difficult start to the tournament.
Among the combinations tried, the pairing of Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton has been the most productive. The duo opened together in four innings and scored 233 runs at an average of 77.66, making it the most successful opening partnership for the franchise this season.
Other combinations have struggled to deliver similar returns. Quinton de Kock and
Ryan Rickelton featured together once but managed only 12 runs. Meanwhile, Quinton de Kock and Danish Malewar opened in two innings and put together 17 runs in total.
A newer pairing of Ryan Rickelton and Will Jacks showed signs of promise, scoring 93 runs in a single innings, suggesting that Mumbai Indians are still exploring options in search of a stable opening combination.
Opening pairs used by Mumbai Indians in IPL 2026:
- Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton - 4 innings
