India enjoyed another productive day at the Commonwealth Games with medals in weightlifting and continued success in boxing, while the men's cricket team completed a clean sweep in Zimbabwe. Formula 1 returned before the summer break with Lando Norris back on the top step, and football saw major developments on and off the pitch, from transfer speculation to the fallout of the FIFA World Cup final.
1. India complete Zimbabwe sweep as Sooryavanshi stars again
India wrapped up a dominant 3-0 T20I series victory over Zimbabwe with a 35-run win in Harare, thanks to another outstanding performance from teenager Vaibhav Sooryavanshi.
The 15-year-old opener struck 81 off 49 balls to guide India to 192 for 5 before Mayank Yadav claimed three wickets and Yash Thakur picked up two as Zimbabwe were restricted to 157
for 7. The result keeps India at the top of the ICC T20I rankings despite concerns over the team's fielding after five dropped catches in the match.
2. Mirabai Chanu wins record third straight Commonwealth Games gold
Mirabai Chanu opened India's gold medal account at the Commonwealth Games by winning the women's 48kg weightlifting title in record-breaking fashion.

The Olympic silver medallist lifted 85kg in the snatch and 105kg in the clean and jerk for a Games-record total of 190kg, securing her third successive Commonwealth Games gold after triumphs in 2018 and 2022. The victory also marked her fourth Commonwealth Games medal after claiming silver in Glasgow in 2014.
3. Rishikanta Singh claims Commonwealth Games silver
India added another medal in weightlifting as Rishikanta Singh Chanambam won silver in the men's 60kg category.
Rishikanta equalled the Commonwealth Games snatch record with a successful lift of 121kg before finishing with a total of 264kg. Malaysia's Mohamad Aniq Bin Kasdan took gold with a Games-record total of 273kg, while Kenya's Joshua Amunga Mboya claimed bronze.
4. Jadumani Singh beats Pakistan boxer to reach quarterfinals
India's Mandengbam Jadumani Singh advanced to the men's 55kg boxing quarterfinals after a comprehensive victory over Pakistan's Sumama Rehman.

The Indian boxer earned a unanimous 5-0 decision after dominating all three rounds, following up another 5-0 victory in his opening bout against Scotland's Cullen. Jadumani will now face the winner of the Zambia-South Africa contest for a place in the semifinals.
5. Norris returns to winning ways in Hungary
Lando Norris claimed his first Formula 1 victory of the 2026 season after winning the Hungarian Grand Prix.

The defending world champion regained the lead following Oscar Piastri's collision and eventual retirement before finishing ahead of Max Verstappen and championship leader Kimi Antonelli. The result came just before Formula 1's summer break, with the Dutch Grand Prix next on the calendar.
6. Formula 1 confirms Bahrain Grand Prix move to Malaysia
Formula 1 has announced that the postponed Bahrain Grand Prix will be staged at Malaysia's Sepang Circuit on October 4.
The race was originally postponed because of regional conflict in the Middle East and will now be held under the title of the Gulf Air Bahrain Grand Prix in Malaysia. The addition restores the 2026 calendar to 23 races, although uncertainty remains over the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix later in the season.
7. Neeraj Chopra expecting toughest Commonwealth challenge
Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra believes this year's Commonwealth Games javelin competition will be among the strongest fields he has faced.
Returning to the Games after an eight-year absence, Chopra will compete against Olympic champions Arshad Nadeem and Keshorn Walcott, former world champion Anderson Peters and world leader Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage. Chopra said his focus remains on executing his technique rather than chasing distances.
8. India crowned Youth Hockey5s Asian champions
India defeated Pakistan 3-1 to win the inaugural FIH Youth Hockey5s Asian Championship men's title in Muscat.
Goals from Romit Pal, captain Ketan Kushwaha and Shahrukh Ali secured victory, while both India and Pakistan qualified for the inaugural Youth Hockey5s World Cup. The Indian women's team also qualified after finishing runners-up to China, with Hockey India announcing cash rewards for both squads.
9. Vozinha earns club move after World Cup heroics
Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha is set to join Chilean club Colo Colo following his impressive performances at the FIFA World Cup.
The 40-year-old, who was without a club during the tournament, became one of the breakout stars after helping Cape Verde earn a memorable draw against eventual champions Spain before pushing Argentina in the knockout stage. Colo Colo confirmed the veteran goalkeeper will travel to Chile to complete his medical.
10. Dani Olmo rejects Roberto Ayala's apology
Spain midfielder Dani Olmo has dismissed Roberto Ayala's apology for their confrontation after the FIFA World Cup final.
Olmo accused the Argentina assistant coach of being dishonest after Ayala claimed his actions were a reaction to something the Spaniard had said. FIFA has already opened disciplinary proceedings into the post-match altercation involving several Argentina players and staff members.
11. Arsenal monitoring Vinicius Junior situation
Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Vinicius Junior if the Brazilian forward decides against extending his contract with Real Madrid.
According to reports, the Gunners are monitoring the situation as the 2024 Best FIFA Men's Player enters the final year of his contract. Any move would require a significant financial commitment, with Real Madrid also closing in on RB Leipzig youngster Yann Diomande while Arsenal continue pursuing Bruno Guimaraes.
12. CSK reportedly prepare blockbuster offer for Hardik Pandya
Chennai Super Kings have reportedly offered Dewald Brevis, Shivam Dube and ₹10 crore to Mumbai Indians in an attempt to sign Hardik Pandya ahead of IPL 2027.
Reports suggest Mumbai are seeking young batter Ayush Mhatre as part of any deal, while Chennai remain reluctant to part with the highly-rated youngster. Kolkata Knight Riders are also said to be monitoring the situation if negotiations between the two rivals collapse.
