The start time for the 2026 Miami Grand Prix has been moved forward by three hours following weather concerns, with officials confirming the change after discussions between Formula 1 authorities and race promoters.
Originally scheduled to begin at 16:00 local time, the race will now start at 13:00 local time in Miami to avoid heavy rainstorms forecast later in the day.
According to an official statement released jointly by Federation Internationale de l'Automobile, Formula One, and the Miami race promoter, the adjustment was made to minimise disruption and ensure the race could be completed safely.
"Following discussions between FIA, F1 and the Miami promoter, the decision has been taken to move the start of Sunday's Miami Grand Prix to 13:00
local time in Miami due to the weather forecast that is expected to bring heavier rainstorms later in the afternoon close to the original planned race start time," the statement said.
What is the new start time for the 2026 Miami Grand Prix?
The revised start time significantly changes the race schedule for viewers across different regions.
Updated Miami Grand Prix start times:
- Local time (Miami): 13:00
- United Kingdom (BST): 18:00
- India (IST): 22:30
The earlier start time creates a larger weather window for the race to run without interruption, particularly important given the risk of severe afternoon storms.
Why was the Miami Grand Prix start time changed?
The decision was taken primarily due to forecasts predicting heavier rainfall and possible thunderstorms later in the afternoon.
Officials stated that the adjustment was made to:
- Reduce the likelihood of race interruptions
- Allow enough time to complete the race if delays occur
- Ensure safety for drivers, teams, staff, and spectators
- Maintain the integrity of the race weekend schedule
"This decision has been taken to ensure the least amount of disruption to the race, and to ensure the maximum possible window to complete the Grand Prix in the best conditions and to prioritise the safety of drivers, fans, teams and staff," the statement added.
Weather disruptions have previously affected Formula 1 events, making early scheduling adjustments a common precaution when severe conditions are expected.
Who starts on pole for the 2026 Miami Grand Prix?
While the timing change grabbed headlines, the grid itself also features a notable front-row lineup.
Andrea Kimi Antonelli secured pole position for Mercedes-AMG Petronas Formula One Team after a strong qualifying performance.
Joining him on the front row is reigning champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull Racing, setting up an intriguing battle at the front of the grid.
With unpredictable weather conditions still looming, strategy and tyre choices could play a crucial role once the race gets underway.
