South Africa ended their 25-year-long wait to win a monumental Test series against India, as they beat India by 408 runs in Guwahati.
India, after losing in Kolkata, relinquished the series 0-2 on home soil, thus continuing their dismal run in red-ball format under Gautam Gambhir.
Batting first, the visitors piled up 489, powered by Senuran Muthusamy's patient 109 and Marco Jansen's explosive 93. Kuldeep Yadav picked four wickets for India. In reply, India managed only 201, with Marco Jansen's 6 for 48 devastating the hosts. South Africa opted against enforcing the follow-on and added 260 for 5 in their second innings, led by Tristan Stubbs' 94 and Tony de Zorzi's 49.
Chasing an improbable 549, India folded meekly for 140 in 63.5 overs as Simon
Harmer spun webs with 6 for 37. Ravindra Jadeja's 54 was the lone bright spot in a dismal batting effort. Aiden Markram also created a unique record as the South African picked up 9 catches in the match, most in a single Test match in the history of the game.
WTC Points Table: World Test Championship Standings after IND vs SA Series
With the series win, South Africa have solidified their position at the 2nd position of the WTC table. For India, things look extremely bleak as they have gone below Pakistan to 5th in the points table. India don't play a Test series now till the second half of 2026, and they will have to turn things around to have any chance of qualifying for the final.
