Casemiro delivered a decisive performance in Manchester United’s 3-2 win over Fulham, easing recent scrutiny. The midfielder struck the opening goal, then supplied a no-look assist for Matheus Cunha to put United 2-0 ahead early in the second half at Old Trafford.
After Casemiro left the pitch in the 75th minute, Manchester United lost control of the match. Fulham fought back to 2-2, before Benjamin Sesko struck a stoppage-time winner that secured three Premier League points and highlighted Casemiro’s earlier impact on the contest.
Jamie Carragher had criticised Casemiro in May 2024, suggesting "the football has left him". Following the Fulham display and recent form, Carragher reversed that verdict on Sky Sports. "It is now fair to say the football has not
left him, Carragher said onSky Sports. "
Carragher pointed to Casemiro’s wider Premier League contribution this season, beyond the Fulham fixture alone. The former defender referenced Casemiro’s displays against Arsenal away and Manchester City at home, arguing the midfielder’s overall level now justified a reassessment of earlier comments.
Casemiro has scored five Premier League goals this season for Manchester United. Only during the 2020-21 campaign with Real Madrid, when the midfielder hit six league goals, has Casemiro registered more in a single season across Europe’s five major domestic competitions.
Defensively, Casemiro’s numbers underline consistent involvement for Manchester United in the Premier League. Casemiro has attempted 52 tackles this season, more than any other United player, with 27 successful. Casemiro has also contested 108 duels, trailing only Matheus Cunha on 117 and Patrick Dorgu on 150.

Casemiro Manchester United future and physical transformation
Against Fulham, Casemiro won seven of nine duels, the second-best figure for Manchester United. Only Harry Maguire produced a higher success rate, winning 11 of 13 duels, which underlined Casemiro’s influence in both defensive and midfield contests throughout the Premier League clash.
Carragher admitted Casemiro’s fitness and sharpness appeared transformed compared with earlier in 2024. The pundit said the midfielder had seemed like "an old man coming to the end of his time as a player" but now looked stronger and far more athletic for Manchester United.
Carragher also suggested Casemiro had earned the right to respond. Carragher said Casemiro could justifiably reply: "leave the punditry before the punditry’s left you!" Carragher added that Casemiro "looks a completely different player" and stressed the change was visible physically as well.
Casemiro is set to depart Manchester United at the end of the season after joining from Los Blancos in 2022. The current Premier League campaign, marked by important goals, high duel numbers and one key assist against Fulham, is shaping his final chapter at Old Trafford.
