The Indian women's cricket team will meet Prime Minister Narendra Modi at his residence in New Delhi today at 6 PM to celebrate their historic ICC Women's World Cup 2025 triumph. The team arrived in the capital on Tuesday evening to a rousing reception from fans at the Indira Gandhi International Airport.
Ahead of their visit to the Prime Minister's residence, visuals surfaced of the players leaving the Taj Hotel, all smiles and pride, as they prepared for the special occasion.
Each member of the victorious squad is expected to be felicitated by PM Modi in recognition of their exceptional performance throughout the tournament. The Prime Minister had earlier congratulated the team on social media, hailing their success as a milestone moment for Indian
women's cricket.
"A spectacular win by the Indian team in the ICC Women's Cricket World Cup 2025 Finals. Their performance in the final was marked by great skill and confidence. This historic win will motivate future champions to take up sports," PM Modi wrote on X.
India's journey to glory was anything but easy. After enduring three consecutive defeats in the league stage, Harmanpreet Kaur and her team displayed remarkable grit and turned their campaign around. Their semifinal victory against Australia, the seven-time champions, was one for the ages-Jemimah Rodrigues' unbeaten 127 and Harmanpreet's 89 guiding India to a record chase of 339.
In the final against South Africa, opener Shafali Verma set the tone with a brilliant 87, helping India post 298. Despite Laura Wolvaardt's century, South Africa fell short, dismissed for 246. Deepti Sharma, the Player of the Tournament, sealed the win by taking the final wicket-caught by skipper Harmanpreet in fitting fashion.
As the team meets PM Modi today, the nation continues to bask in the glory of a truly golden chapter in Indian women's cricket.
