India's leading javelin thrower, Sachin Yadav, is all set to make his much-awaited Diamond League debut at the Rome leg on June 4, marking his return to international competition after an impressive outing at the 2025 World Championships.
The 26-year-old, who finished fourth in Tokyo with a personal best of 86.27m, will be up against a strong field featuring former world champion Anderson Peters, Germany's Julian Weber and Thomas Röhler, the Czech Republic's Jakub Vadlejch, the USA's Curtis Thompson, Poland's Dawid Wegner, and Sri Lanka's Rumesh Tharanga Pathirage.
Pathirage enters the event as the current season leader, having recorded throws beyond 89m twice this year, including 89.37m in March and 89.28m at the Kip Keino Classic. Yadav, meanwhile,
has already begun his 2026 campaign, finishing second at the Indian Athletics Series 3 in New Delhi with a throw of 81.95m.
Notably, Olympic champion Neeraj Chopra will miss the Rome event as he continues rehabilitation and training in Turkiye. His season-opening competition is yet to be confirmed.
The Diamond League calendar also includes the Rabat meet on May 31 and the rescheduled Doha leg on June 19, both featuring men's javelin. Meanwhile, India will also have representation in the women's events, with national record holder Parul Chaudhary set to compete in the 3000m steeplechase at the Shanghai leg on May 16.
