Bernd Leno’s late heroics denied Brentford a vital win in the race for European spots, as Fulham escaped the Gtech Community Stadium with a 0-0 draw that leaves Brentford level on points with Chelsea and extends Keith Andrews’ side’s Premier League run to five consecutive draws.
The closing stages brought the clearest drama. Keane Lewis-Potter’s close-range header struck Igor Thiago, before Dango Ouattara slid in to stab the loose ball goalwards, only for Leno to react with a fingertip save that diverted the effort wide and preserved Fulham’s point.
Brentford’s performance had promised more from the outset. After only 10 minutes, Thiago met a cross with a fierce header that crashed against the outside of the right post, setting the tone for a match
in which Brentford carried the greater attacking threat but could not convert pressure into goals.
Both teams failed to take inviting first-half openings. Ryan Sessegnon created Fulham’s best early moment but sent a rising attempt over the bar, while Lewis-Potter mirrored that wastefulness at the other end after a neat drag back opened space inside the penalty area but ended with another shot too high.
Brentford kept pushing after the interval. Ouattara drove a powerful strike straight at Leno as pressure mounted on Fulham’s defence, while Harry Wilson squandered Fulham’s clearest second-half opportunity when a promising attack ended with a square ball rolling harmlessly across goal and out for a throw-in.
Despite their late threat, Fulham’s attack struggled throughout. Fulham attempted 10 shots, worth 0.74 expected goals, yet failed to hit the target once. It was Fulham’s first Premier League away match without a shot on goal since April 2023 against Aston Villa, underlining Fulham’s difficulties on the road.
Fulham’s away form remains modest, with only one win in the last eight Premier League away fixtures, alongside three draws and four defeats. Just 35.6% of Fulham’s league points, 16 from a total of 45, have come away from Craven Cottage, leaving Fulham 12th and three points behind Brentford.
Brentford’s record in London derbies at home continues a curious pattern. Brentford have drawn all four Premier League home matches against fellow London clubs this season and are one of only two sides yet to win a home London derby in 2025-26, alongside West Ham, while remaining seventh before Chelsea face Manchester United later on 18 April 2026.
