Mumbai Indians star Rohit Sharma is likely to be ruled out for the upcoming IPL 2026 match against Punjab Kings on Thursday (April 16).
Rohit Sharma suffered a hamstring injury during Mumbai Indians' IPL 2026 match against the Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 12 at Wankhede Stadium. The 38-year-old opener was batting fluently, scoring 19 off 13 balls, when he felt discomfort in his right hamstring in the sixth over of the chase. He retired hurt and did not return to bat as MI lost by 18 runs.
He underwent an MRI scan on Monday morning (April 13) at HL Reliance Hospital in Mumbai to assess the severity. Scan results were expected by Monday evening, but as of April 15, there is no official update from MI or BCCI on the exact grade of the injury
or recovery timeline.
Rohit Sharma to miss PBKS Match
Reports have confirmed that he is likely to miss MI's next match against Punjab Kings on April 16. If the injury is significant, he could miss a couple of games. In Rohit's absence, Naman Dhir is likely to be included in the MI lineup for the next match.
Rohit has a history of similar concerns, though he entered IPL 2026 in excellent fitness after significant weight loss and preparation. The Paltans have had a disappointing outing in the IPL 2026 season so far, losing three of their first four matches.
