The Pakistan Super League has ignited excitement for its groundbreaking first auction by unveiling retention lists that keep superstars in place across most franchises.
Peshawar Zalmi, Lahore Qalandars, Quetta Gladiators, and Karachi Kings each locked in four players, Islamabad United held onto three. Multan Sultans will go into the auction without any retained players as they released all including captain Mohammad Rizwan.
In the elite Platinum category, Babar Azam remains Peshawar Zalmi's cornerstone, Shaheen Shah Afridi spearheads Lahore Qalandars, Shadab Khan anchors Islamabad United, Abrar Ahmed fortifies Quetta Gladiators, and Hasan Ali strengthens Karachi Kings.
Lahore Qalandars build around Afridi with Diamond batter Abdullah Shafique,
Gold allrounder Sikandar Raza, and Silver prospect Mohammad Naeem. Quetta Gladiators prioritize spin mastery by retaining Abrar Ahmed and Diamond tweaker Usman Tariq, alongside Gold contributor Hasan Nawaz and Emerging left-hand batter Shamyl Hussain.
Peshawar Zalmi pairs Babar with Diamond pacer Sufiyan Muqeem, Gold powerhouse Abdul Samad, and Emerging talent Ali Raza. Islamabad United backs Shadab with Gold fast bowler Salman Irshad and Silver USA keeper-batter Andries Gous, skipping Platinum and Emerging slots. Karachi Kings unite Hasan Ali with Diamond dynamo Abbas Afridi, Gold hitter Khushdil Shah, and Emerging keeper Saad Baig.
New franchises Sialkot Stallionz and Hyderabad must finalize retentions by February 7, ahead of the landmark auction on February 11.
Every retained player and auction acquisition signs a two-year contract, with squads capped at 16 to 20 players-including five to seven overseas stars and at least one uncapped local under 23 without prior PSL experience.
