Mohun Bagan's young guns unleashed a torrent of goals to thrash Mohammedan Sporting 23-0 in a one-sided AIFF U14 Youth League encounter, showcasing the club's dominance in Indian youth football development.
Anubrata Baul Das starred with a sensational eight-goal haul, turning the match into a personal showcase. Dorpon Hatibaoruah chipped in with six strikes, while Sagnik Kundu netted a brace. Kartick Hembram and Jiyon Hansda each added two goals, with Sidu Soren, Jishu Chakraborty, and Sakibuddin completing the rout with one apiece.
Mohammedan youngsters had a dismal outing as their defence couldn't cope up with the quality attack of the young Mariner brigade. It could have been worse for them had their keeper not saved a few chances.
The emphatic
victory underlines Mohun Bagan's strength at the grassroots level, as their U14 team continues to overpower opponents in the league. Mohammedan struggled to contain the relentless attack, conceding freely throughout the fixture.
This result boosts Mohun Bagan's position atop the standings, signalling bright prospects for Indian football's future stars.
Amid their juniors' excellent performance, the senior team prepares for the truncated Indian Super League season, which will commence from Febraury 14. The Mohun Bagan Super Giant begin their campaign at home against Kerala Blasters. The Mariners, as they are popularly known, will be aiming to continue their excellent streak in the ISL, but this time under new manager Sergio Lobera, who joined the helm recently.
