The Mumbai Indians camp has been on high alert, with intense speculation suggesting that skipper Hardik Pandya might miss their highly anticipated IPL 2026 clash against the rampaging Rajasthan Royals. With the stakes getting higher in the tournament, losing a captain of Pandya's calibre could have been a devastating blow for the five-time champions.
After missing the previous match against Delhi Capitals due to health concerns, the star all-rounder has been cleared to lead the side in their upcoming IPL 2026 encounter against the Rajasthan Royals at the ACA Stadium in Guwahati.
However, the Mumbai Indians fan base can finally breathe a massive sigh of relief.
Addressing the swirling rumours, Mumbai Indians bowling coach Paras Mhambrey has stepped
in to clear the air. In a major update, Mhambrey explicitly confirmed that Hardik Pandya is fit and will definitively be available for the upcoming showdown against the Royals at the ACA Stadium.
"He will be available, he had a good couple of hours of net session yesterday. He is fit and fine. Just to clarify, Hardik wasn't injured, he was unwell, that's why he missed the game," Mhambrey confirmed.
The coach further emphasized that the captain has recovered fully and is ready to compete at 100 percent. "Hardik Pandya will be available for tomorrow's game. He was not injured; he was unwell. He is fit and fine now," he added.
Pandya's return comes at a critical juncture for the five-time champions. In his absence, India T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav stepped in to lead the squad, but the team struggled to find its rhythm, ultimately falling to a six-wicket defeat against the Delhi Capitals. The loss highlighted how much the side relies on Pandya's dual threat with both bat and ball, as well as his tactical leadership on the field.
The Mumbai Indians currently sit in the middle of the points table and will be desperate to reclaim their winning momentum. Facing a formidable Rajasthan Royals side currently led by the in-form Riyan Parag, MI has to be at their absolute best. With their captain back at the helm, the team will be hoping to regain their balance and secure a vital two points in Guwahati.
