India's Pratika Rawal, who was ruled out of the ICC Women's World Cup, is finally set to receive her elusive medal.
A historic night unfolded in Navi Mumbai as the Indian team clinched their maiden Women's
World Cup title, by beating South Africa by 52 runs. Harmanpreet Kaur and her team dominated the proceedings to secure a monumental win.
Pratika Rawal was part of the Indian squad and played a crucial part in the group stages, scoring 308 runs, thus becoming the 2nd highest scorer for India following Smriti Mandhana. But an injury in the final game of the group stages ruled her out of the tournament.
Pratika was replaced by Shafali Verma, who made a blockbuster contribution in the final. Verma scored 87 runs with the bat, and then picked up 2 crucial wickets with her spin bowling, effectively changing the tide of the final. After the World Cup win, the Indian players were handed medals and Pratika didn't receive hers, as she was officially replaced from the squad.
Pratika joined the celebrations on a wheelchair and was part of the photoshoot, but she had no medal to show for. Moreover, Amanjot Kaur handed her medal to Pratika during the Indian women's team's visit with Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
Pratika Rawal to get her Medal
Amid this, the India cricketer is reportedly going to receive her medal. Pratika, while speaking with CNN News 18, confirmed that the ICC chairman Jay Shah has personally intervened, and the medal is on its way.
"Jay Shah intervened and told us he wants to make sure I get a medal of my own. It is on the way. I will get it soon," the India player said.
