India pacer Mohammed Shami has been handed a notice by the Honourable Supreme Court, along with the West Bengal government as well.
Indian cricketer Mohammed Shami's estranged wife, Hasin Jahan, has approached
the Supreme Court of India seeking an increase in the alimony awarded to her and their daughter.
The Supreme Court has issued a notice to Shami and the West Bengal government, asking them to respond within four weeks. This move challenges the earlier Calcutta High Court order that granted Jahan Rs 1.5 lakh per month for herself and Rs 2.5 lakh for their daughter, which she contends is insufficient considering Shami's substantial earnings and lifestyle.
Hasin Jahan, a former model and Kolkata Knight Riders cheerleader, married Shami in 2014, and the couple has a daughter born in 2015. Their relationship deteriorated by 2018 when Jahan accused Shami of domestic violence, dowry harassment, and match-fixing, leading to a prolonged legal battle including criminal charges filed against Shami. Jahan's demand for higher alimony reflects the changes in Shami's income and inflation since the original amount was set.
She described the Calcutta High Court's recent decision as a hard-fought victory but emphasized that the amount is still inadequate.
Hasin Jahan wants Rs 6 lakh as Monthly Alimony
Her legal counsel mentioned the possibility of the alimony being increased from Rs 4 lakh to Rs 6 lakh monthly as proceedings continue in the trial court. Throughout this ordeal, Shami has expressed his desire to focus on cricket and avoid controversies.
Mohammed Shami and Hasin Jahan met during the 2012 IPL season when she was a cheerleader for KKR, and he was a player. They married on June 6, 2014, and had a daughter, Aaira, in 2015. The couple lived happily until 2018 when Hasin accused Shami of domestic abuse, dowry harassment, and infidelity, including match-fixing allegations, which were later cleared by BCCI.
