Ayush Mhatre has been retired out by Chennai Super Kings in the IPL 2026 match against Delhi Capitals on Saturday (April 11).
The India U19 star, who came in after Ruturaj Gaikwad's dismissal, was taken off when he was batting on 59 runs off 36 deliveries.
Ayush had played a decent knock and added a big partnership with Sanju Samson. He had hit 3 boundaries and 4 sixes and added 113 runs in 68 balls with Samson in the 2nd wicket.
Why was Ayush Mhatre Taken Off?
Ayush Mhatre was taken off as he is not a power hitter in the death overs. With Shivam Dube in the hut, CSK wanted a left-right combination in the middle and hence went forward with the move. Dube, who is a hard hitter, plays the role of a finisher and thus got the nod at the expense of Mhatre.
