India delivered a commanding all-round performance to defeat Namibia by 93 runs in their Group A clash of the ICC Men's T20 World Cup 2026 at Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi, on February 12.
This victory marked India's second successive win in the tournament and their largest margin of victory by runs in T20 World Cup history.
Namibia skipper Gerhard Erasmus won the toss and opted to field, hoping to exploit early conditions. India capitalized on the decision with an explosive start. Sanju Samson set the tone briefly before departing, but Ishan Kishan unleashed mayhem, hammering a blistering 61 off just 24 balls with 6 fours and five sixes.
His assault helped India race to their fastest team century in T20 World Cup history (in 6.5 overs) and reach
104/1 early. The PowerPlay fireworks laid a solid foundation. The middle phase saw some resistance from Namibia's bowlers, particularly Erasmus, who claimed 4/20 in his spell, including key scalps that triggered a mini-collapse. Suryakumar Yadav (captain) contributed modestly, while others fell in clusters. Hardik Pandya stepped up decisively, smashing a quickfire 52 off 28 balls to revive momentum and push the total forward in crucial partnerships.
Despite a dramatic late slump, five wickets falling for just 10 runs in the final two overs, India posted a formidable 209/9. Shivam Dube added a handy cameo, but the finish highlighted vulnerability under pressure.
Chasing 210, Namibia began steadily, reaching around 57/1 in the PowerPlay. However, India's spinners took control. Varun Chakravarthy was devastating, claiming three quick wickets (figures of 3/7) to dismantle the middle order. Axar Patel maintained the squeeze, while pacers like Jasprit Bumrah delivered yorkers and Hardik Pandya chipped in with two wickets (2/21), including late strikes. Namibia crumbled, losing wickets regularly and never building momentum. They were bowled out for 116 in 18.2 overs, with Zane Green unfortunate to hit his own wicket.
Hardik Pandya earned Player of the Match for his all-round impact. India's blend of batting firepower and disciplined bowling showcased their depth, securing top spot in Group A with four points and setting up an exciting clash against Pakistan next.
