Brittney Sykes again led the offence as the Toronto Tempo defeated the Phoenix Mercury 98-90 on Tuesday. Sykes scored 31 points. Marina Mabrey added 30 points. The result moved Toronto to 3-2 and left Phoenix at 2-3.
The matchup stayed close, producing 24 lead changes and 13 ties. Mabrey created separation when a sixth 3-pointer with 1:25 left pushed Toronto ahead 96-90. Tempo finished with a season-high 15 threes, while Phoenix went 4-of-22, 18.2 per cent.

On Sunday, two days earlier, Sykes scored a career-best 38 points in a 106-96 win over the Los Angeles Sparks. Across five games, the nine-year veteran is averaging 25.6 points, up from 14.1 last season with the Seattle Storm and Washington Mystics.
Phoenix stayed competitive despite outside
