Manchester City kept pressure on Arsenal in the Premier League title race with a 3-0 home victory over Brentford, secured by a standout display from Jeremy Doku. The winger’s second-half strike eased growing tension inside the Etihad Stadium before Erling Haaland and Omar Marmoush completed a win City could not afford to drop.
The result followed Monday’s dramatic 3-3 draw with Everton, where Doku scored late to salvage a point that still allowed Arsenal to gain control of the title battle. Pep Guardiola’s side now must win every remaining league match and rely on Arsenal slipping, a scenario that added edge to every moment against Brentford.
City’s performance took time to settle, with the first half lacking rhythm and fluency despite long spells
of possession. Brentford grew in belief either side of the interval, pushing higher and threatening on transitions, and the anxiety from the stands appeared to spread to the players before Doku finally changed the mood.
The breakthrough arrived on the hour when Doku cut inside and curled a precise finish into the top-right corner, giving Mark Flekken no chance. Brentford quickly appealed for a penalty at the other end, but those claims were dismissed, and that decision proved costly as City then wrestled back complete control of the contest.
Haaland calmed lingering nerves in the 75th minute, forcing the ball over the line from close range after Brentford failed to clear a cross. Brentford goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher then produced an excellent stop to push away Phil Foden’s effort, yet City still found a third when Marmoush finished neatly in stoppage time to seal a convincing scoreline.
Doku’s display continued a productive week. Against Everton, Doku scored twice in an open match that ended 3-3, and those goals, like this latest strike, arrived at crucial moments. Across these two league games, Doku has repeatedly delivered either the equaliser or the opener when City needed an attacking spark.
That influence is reflected in Doku’s wider form. The Belgian has now scored in three consecutive appearances in all competitions for City, the first time achieving that run since joining the club. Across his last six matches, Doku has produced seven goal involvements, with five goals and two assists, matching his tally from the previous 24 games.

Manchester City Premier League numbers underline dominance
Opta’s data highlighted the scale of Doku’s contribution against Brentford, with the winger creating at least six chances and completing six or more successful dribbles. That output made Doku the third player this Premier League season to hit those combined figures in one game, matching Bukayo Saka against Fulham and Elliot Anderson versus Brighton and Hove Albion.
Haaland’s strike extended a strong run as well. The forward has now scored in four straight Premier League matches. Across this league campaign, Haaland has 26 goals and eight assists, giving 34 goal involvements. Only during Haaland’s debut 2022-23 season with City did the forward register a higher league total, finishing then with 44 contributions.
Overall attacking metrics reflected City’s control against Brentford. Guardiola’s team generated chances worth 2.98 expected goals, compared to Brentford’s 0.24, underlining the disparity in opportunities created. That level of efficiency in front of goal has often defined City’s sustained success under Guardiola in domestic competition.
The victory keeps Manchester City firmly in the hunt, though the situation in the table remains dependent on Arsenal’s results, starting with the trip to West Ham on Sunday. With Doku in strong form and Haaland scoring consistently, City maintain momentum heading into the final stretch of the Premier League season.
