Inter visit Cremonese on Sunday looking to protect a five-point advantage over AC Milan and maintain control of the Serie A title race, with head coach Cristian Chivu stressing that humility and work rate
must guide the league leaders despite their strong recent results.
Inter arrive in Cremona after three straight Serie A victories, including a 6-2 win against Pisa, and a 2-0 success over Borussia Dortmund in the Champions League, although Chivu’s side missed automatic qualification for the last 16 by a single point despite recording a first European win since November.
Cremonese sit 13th in Serie A and hold a six-point cushion over the relegation places, yet the recent run is poor, with no league wins since a 2-0 home success against Lecce on 7 December, only three points collected from eight games, and seven of those fixtures ending without a goal scored.
Historically, Inter have dominated this fixture, winning 14 of 17 Serie A meetings with Cremonese for an 82 per cent success rate, losing only once, a 2-0 defeat at San Siro in May 1992, and after drawing 0-0 in Cremona in March 1930, Inter have won all seven subsequent league visits to the Stadio Giovanni Zini.
| Outcome | OPTA win probability |
|---|---|
| Cremonese win | 12.1% |
| Draw | 17.8% |
| Inter win | 70.1% |
Across Europe’s top five leagues this season, Inter have recorded 17 victories, the joint-highest figure alongside Barcelona, and Chivu’s team have scored 50 league goals, the third-best attack behind Bayern Munich with 72 and Barcelona with 57, while Inter also hold a perfect record against current bottom-half Serie A sides, winning 11 games with 31 goals scored and only six conceded.

Chivu has highlighted the contribution of the full squad, praising the mentality across 25 players and drawing attention to displays from Yann Sommer, Luis Henrique and Andy Diouf against Dortmund, noting Diouf’s patience, understanding of Inter’s expectations and attitude after waiting for chances and then scoring in that match.
For Cremonese, forward Federico Bonazzoli faces his former club after making five Serie A appearances for Inter between May 2014 and May 2015, all as a substitute without scoring or assisting, and Bonazzoli has five league goals this season, although only one has come at the Stadio Giovanni Zini, a penalty against Lecce on 7 December.
| Player | Team | Season statistic | Detail |
|---|---|---|---|
| Federico Bonazzoli | Cremonese | 5 Serie A goals | 1 goal at Stadio Giovanni Zini |
| Federico Dimarco | Inter | 12 goal involvements | 5 goals, 7 assists in 20 appearances |
Inter’s Federico Dimarco has already set a personal record with 12 goal involvements in a single Serie A campaign, scoring five times and providing seven assists in 20 appearances in 2025-26, and among Inter defenders since 2004-05, only Achraf Hakimi with 15 in 2020-21 and Maicon with 17 in 2009-10 have contributed to more league goals.
Recent form suggests a difficult task for Cremonese, who have collected the fewest points, only three, over the last eight Serie A matchdays, scored just two goals in that spell and produced seven games without scoring, while Inter enter the contest with strong statistics, confidence from recent wins and Chivu’s repeated emphasis on discipline and humility as the team defends top spot.
