Inter Milan's squad is impressive, according to Simeone. "Inter play very well, they have character and a very clear attacking pattern," he stated. He also praised Cristian Chivu, Inter's coach, predicting that Inter could reclaim the Scudetto this season due to their strong performance.
Atletico Madrid has been dominant at home in recent Champions League campaigns. They have secured victories in 11 of their last 12 home games in the competition, with only one loss. This makes them one of the most successful teams at home since the 2023-24 season.
The upcoming match will be just the fourth encounter between Atletico and Inter across all competitions. Their previous meeting was during the 2023-24 Champions League round of 16, where Atletico advanced after winning on penalties.
Simeone spent two years playing for Inter Milan, making 84 appearances and winning the UEFA Cup with them in the 1997-98 season. Reflecting on his coaching aspirations, he mentioned, "It doesn't depend on me, but in my coaching career, I imagine a time on the Inter bench. "

Simeone acknowledges that every game is crucial for Atletico Madrid as they progress through their campaign. "Every match is important for us, regardless of the opponent," he said. The team is focused on improving various aspects of their play and relies heavily on fan support during home games.
Despite losing a derby match recently, Simeone believes Inter can quickly move past setbacks due to their strength and potential to succeed both domestically and in Europe. He sees them as favourites for both the Scudetto and a deep run in the Champions League.
