Sunrisers Hyderabad and Pat Cummins won the toss and elected to field first against Shubman Gill's Gujarat Titans in Match 56 of IPL 2026 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Tuesday.
The toss decision was always expected to play a major role at this venue because of the dew factor that usually becomes significant during the second innings in Ahmedabad. Recent matches at the Narendra Modi Stadium have also shown that conditions become slightly easier for batting later in the night.
Both Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad entered the contest in excellent form and knowing that a victory could virtually secure playoff qualification.
GT arrived after four consecutive wins and continued to rely heavily on the consistency of Shubman Gill,

The Ahmedabad surface has produced mixed behaviour throughout IPL 2026.
While the venue remains capable of producing high-scoring contests, recent matches have shown increasing assistance for bowlers - particularly pacers who hit hard lengths consistently. Seam movement, extra bounce and grip off the surface have made batting slightly tougher once the ball gets older.
However, dew is still expected to influence conditions later in the evening, which likely played a major role behind the toss decision.
