Oxford United climbed out of the Championship relegation zone with a 2-1 victory over Ipswich Town at The Kassam Stadium. Goals from Mark Harris and Przemyslaw Placheta secured the win, moving Oxford to 19th
place. Ipswich missed the opportunity to rise to second, losing ground on their rivals before the weekend's matches.
The opening goal came after 24 minutes due to an error by Azor Matusiwa. His underhit pass intended for Cedric Kipre was intercepted by Harris, who then scored past Christian Walton. Ipswich equalised early in the second half when Marcelino Nunez found Leif Davis, whose volley brought them level.
Despite Ipswich's efforts, they couldn't convert their chances into goals. They had 18 shots with an expected goals (xG) value of 1.7, compared to Oxford's 13 shots and 1.24 xG. This inefficiency cost them as Oxford capitalised on their opportunities more effectively.
Oxford's defence held firm under pressure, with goalkeeper Jamie Cummings making crucial saves. He denied Jaden Philogene's curling shot and blocked George Hirst's near-post strike with his face, causing a brief stoppage in play.
As Ipswich pushed forward, they were vulnerable to counter-attacks. Brian De Keersmaecker exploited this by delivering a ball over the defence for Placheta, who scored at the near post to secure the win.
Outstanding Performances
While Placheta and Cummings received much praise, Jack Currie's performance was also noteworthy. The Oxford left-back excelled defensively, winning four tackles and seven duels while making two interceptions and having 44 touches.

This result leaves Oxford two points clear of the relegation zone. Meanwhile, Ipswich risk dropping out of playoff contention by week's end if results don't go their way.
