Karry Kane's late penalty secured a 2-2 draw for Bayern Munich against Mainz, who are at the bottom of the Bundesliga table. This was only the second time this season that Vincent Kompany's team did not
win. Lee Jae-sung, who scored twice in a similar fixture last year, seemed to have clinched victory for Mainz with a powerful header after Kacper Potulski equalised Lennart Karl's initial goal.
Mainz faced intense pressure from the start but managed to create some chances. Stefan Bell's header deflected off Hiroki Ito and hit the crossbar. Daniel Batz made an impressive save from Kane's header and also stopped Michael Olise's curling shot as Bayern increased their efforts. Bayern eventually took the lead when Serge Gnabry capitalised on a mishit shot by Kane to set up Karl, who deceived Batz.
Potulski headed William Boving's excellent free-kick past Manuel Neuer just before half-time, levelling the score. After the break, Gnabry was denied by Batz, and Kane's follow-up was blocked on the line. Mainz then went ahead when Lee powerfully headed in Bell's cross from the right wing. However, with time running out, Kane turned Potulski in the box and was fouled. He calmly converted the penalty to secure a point for Bayern.
Bayern Munich had several opportunities to win comfortably but were thwarted by an outstanding performance from Mainz goalkeeper Daniel Batz. He made eight saves and one clearance during the match. Despite scoring the equaliser, Kane might feel disappointed as he had four clear chances and eight shots in total, with four on target.

Kane ended with an expected goals (xG) figure of 2.18 but only managed one goal. The former Tottenham player had 12 touches inside Mainz’s box, seven of which were shots on goal. Although Bayern’s defence wasn't at its best, they have now scored over 50 goals in just 14 Bundesliga matches—the fastest any team has reached this milestone in the competition.
Despite not securing all three points, Bayern Munich continues to demonstrate their attacking prowess this season. Their ability to score consistently has been remarkable, even if defensive lapses occasionally cost them victories. As they move forward in the league, maintaining this offensive momentum will be crucial for their title aspirations.
