Rory McIlroy secured his fourth consecutive Race to Dubai victory, even though he narrowly missed out on the DP World Tour Championship title. Matt Fitzpatrick emerged victorious in a thrilling finale.
McIlroy started the final day tied at the top of the leaderboard, but Fitzpatrick's flawless 66, finishing at 18-under, clinched the win.
Fitzpatrick's performance was impressive, with a bogey-free round that set him apart from other contenders. "It means the world," Fitzpatrick expressed about his win. He acknowledged his struggles earlier in the year and praised his summer turnaround and Ryder Cup performance. "The way I played here, there was one bad shot all day," he added.
McIlroy had initially held a two-shot lead during the back nine but lost it. A spectacular 15-foot eagle on the final hole forced extra play. However, McIlroy's tee shot found water during the playoff, allowing Fitzpatrick to secure his first DP World Tour title since October 2023.
Despite finishing second in the event, McIlroy topped the Race to Dubai standings for a record seventh time. He is now just one win away from matching Colin Montgomerie's record of eight victories in this competition.

Fitzpatrick reflected on his game improvement over the weekend. "I'd not been hitting it amazingly all week," he admitted but noted significant progress on Saturday and Sunday. Despite challenges mid-round, he managed crucial putts late to position himself for victory.
Other Contenders' Performances
Ludvig Aberg and Tommy Fleetwood shared third place with Laurie Canter and Rasmus Neergaard-Petersen, finishing just one stroke behind Fitzpatrick. Rasmus Hojgaard led at the tournament's midpoint but concluded at 15-under. Robert MacIntyre was among those tied for eighth place.
