Cristian Chivu has agreed a new deal with Inter that runs until June 2028, rewarding a successful first campaign. Inter kept faith with Chivu after major progress in Serie A and the Coppa Italia under the Romanian coach.
After arriving to replace Simone Inzaghi shortly before the Club World Cup, Chivu guided Inter through 58 matches in all competitions. The team recorded 38 victories, nine draws and 11 defeats, giving Chivu a win rate of 65.5% across the season.
Inter secured the Serie A title with three league fixtures left, beating Chivu's former club Parma on May 3. That result confirmed the Scudetto and completed the first part of a domestic double that also featured a Coppa Italia triumph.

Inter finished the league season with 89 goals, matching their tallies from the title-winning campaigns of 2020-21 and 2023-24. Adding the Coppa Italia meant Chivu became the only figure in Inter history to win Serie A and the cup in the same year both as a player and as a coach.
Chivu also entered an elite group of Serie A coaches. The Romanian became only the fifth manager to claim the Scudetto with Inter in a debut league season, following Arpad Weisz in 1929-30, Alfredo Foni in 1952-53, Giovanni Invernizzi in 1970-71 and Jose Mourinho in 2008-09. Invernizzi had taken charge partway through that campaign, in November.
Inter now look towards the 2026-27 season, which begins with a home fixture against Monza. With the contract extension secured, Chivu has a clear mandate to build on the domestic double and maintain Inter's recent scoring levels and competitive standards in Serie A and the Coppa Italia.
