Tottenham have completed the signing of Conor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid, bringing the England midfielder back to London. The deal is reported to be worth 34m, with Gallagher joining on a long-term contract. The move strengthens Tottenham’s midfield options for the rest of the 2025-26 season.
Gallagher could feature quickly for Tottenham, with a possible debut at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Saturday. Struggling West Ham visit in the Premier League, and Tottenham are short in midfield after Rodrigo Bentancur’s hamstring injury and subsequent surgery ruled Bentancur out for most of the campaign.
The former Chelsea player is understood to have signed a five-and-a-half-year agreement, although Tottenham have not officially released the contract
length. Gallagher had been close to joining Aston Villa earlier in the transfer window, but Tottenham moved late in the window and secured the transfer ahead of the Birmingham club.

Gallagher joined Atletico Madrid in 2024 and featured regularly during the first season. The midfielder made 77 appearances in all competitions, scoring seven goals and supplying seven assists. However, in the 2025-26 campaign, including the Club World Cup, Gallagher played 30 times, starting only 10 matches and completing just one full 90 minutes.
Before the move to LaLiga, Gallagher built his reputation in the Premier League. The midfielder played 136 league games across spells with West Brom, Crystal Palace and Chelsea. That experience in English football is expected to help Gallagher adapt quickly to Tottenham’s style and the demands of the league schedule.
Gallagher’s domestic and European numbers with Atletico and in England highlight a consistent presence in midfield across different competitions and systems.
| Club | Competition | Appearances | Goals | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Atletico Madrid | All competitions | 77 | 7 | 7 |
| West Brom, Crystal Palace, Chelsea | Premier League | 136 | - | - |
Gallagher described the move as a straightforward decision, speaking to Tottenham’s media. "I'm so happy and excited to be here, taking the next step in my career at an amazing club," he told the club's website. "I wanted to be a Spurs player, and thankfully, the club felt the same. It was very easy, it happened very quickly, and I'm ready to get on the pitch. I know how great the fans are, I'm really happy to be a part of it here and want to create special moments and memories together. "
The signing gives Tottenham an experienced, homegrown midfielder at a time of injury pressure, with Bentancur sidelined. Gallagher’s background in the Premier League and recent spell in LaLiga provide Tottenham with added depth and flexibility as the team enter a busy phase against domestic and international opponents.
