Birmingham City earned a 1-1 draw at Swansea City, fighting back from behind through Patrick Roberts’ superb 72nd‑minute strike. The result halted Birmingham’s away problems in the Championship, where only Sheffield Wednesday have collected fewer points on the road.
Chris Davies expressed relief at the performance and the result after another demanding away assignment. "It was a hard-fought game, and I thought we fully deserved a point," said Davies, whose team again showed resilience after conceding the opening goal.
Swansea started sharper and went ahead in the first half through Zan Vipotnik’s finish. The hosts created 1.06 of their 1.6 expected goals before the break, while Birmingham struggled to keep the ball and allowed Swansea longer spells
of possession.
After half-time, Birmingham City looked far more assertive in the Championship contest. The visitors pressed higher, closed spaces quicker and forced Swansea into errors. Birmingham then controlled more of the ball, pushed Swansea back, and appeared physically stronger during the final stages.
Roberts carried Birmingham’s main attacking threat throughout the match. The forward registered six attempts, matching the most by any Birmingham player in a Championship game this season. One late effort from Roberts was blocked, before Lewis Koumas shot off target during a promising opening.

Davies felt Birmingham were closest to snatching victory as Swansea faded. "I thought if anyone was going to win it, as the game went on it was going to be us but coming away from home it always has to be seen as a good point in the Championship, because there's no easy games. We are a team that has been struggling a little bit away from home, so to go and get a point and show that real grit and togetherness again, and resilience, is something to build on. "
Reflecting further, Davies highlighted the improvement after the interval, noting that Birmingham created moments even before falling behind. Birmingham City stay 14th in the Championship, two points ahead of Swansea, and visit Sheffield Wednesday next before hosting Stoke City on January 24.
