Justin Rose stretched a dominant lead at the Farmers Insurance Open, moving four shots clear after round two and breaking his own 36-hole scoring mark. Brooks Koepka also drew attention in San Diego, making the cut on a PGA Tour return.
The 45-year-old English player posted a seven-under-par 65 at Torrey Pines, reaching 17 under after two rounds. Rose combined an eagle, six birdies and one bogey, creating a cushion over Seamus Power, with Max McGreevy and Joel Dahmen next.
Rose’s score bettered the previous 36-hole standard of 15 under that Rose had set. Power closed the day four behind in second on 13 under. McGreevy and Dahmen shared third place on 11 under, keeping distant but still within sight of contention.
could show Rose on 17 under, Power
on 13 under, and the American pair on 11 under. Such numbers underline how Rose separated from the field across two rounds, while the chasing players stayed grouped behind a clear leader.
Rose linked the performance to a long-term pattern of success on demanding layouts, similar to the Torrey Pines test. The 2025 Masters runner-up explained that more difficult courses usually suit personal strengths, especially when accuracy and patience are required across four competitive rounds.
"I feel like in my career I've won on tough golf courses generally, so that's my M.O., I would say," said the Englishman.
"It's the kind of a place I enjoy. It's one of my favourite tournaments on Tour, just the whole area, the whole atmosphere, the whole vibe. "

Farmers Insurance Open return for Brooks Koepka on PGA Tour
Koepka, playing a first PGA Tour event since leaving LIV Golf, recovered from a slow beginning. After an opening 73 on Thursday, the five-time major champion produced a second-round 63, reaching three under and safely advancing to the weekend rounds.
"I think [Thursday] I was excited to play, nervous, and kind of didn't know what to expect, but today felt more normal, I guess," Koepka said.
"But yeah, I mean, don't get me wrong, I definitely still got antsy, but I guess maybe a little bit of nerves, just trying to figure it out and test - see where my game's at too, right? I feel like I'm playing really well. It's just been a long layoff. "
Rose’s front-running position, combined with Koepka’s encouraging response after a long break, sets up a notable weekend at Torrey Pines. The leaderboard shows Rose in control, yet several pursuers remain close enough to challenge across the remaining rounds.
