Manchester United decided to sack Ruben Amorim from his head coach duties on Monday (January 5). The Portuguese was shown the door after 14 months in charge. Amid this, there are reports that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer may return as the Red Devils' boss for the remainder of the season.
As per Sky Sports, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer's interim return is being discussed in the context of Manchester United's decision to sack Ruben Amorim.
Reports suggest Solskjaer is keen on a short‑term caretaker role as the club weigh up options following Amorim's exit and Darren Fletcher's temporary promotion.
United have held informal discussions with Solskjaer, as well as Michael Carrick, while searching for a caretaker manager to lead the team until the end of the season.
INEOS has also approached Carrick for an interim role, and a clearer picture will emerge in the coming days.
Amorim's dismissal came after a poor run of form that left the club struggling in mid-table despite some early promise. Current technical director Darren Fletcher is overseeing upcoming fixtures, including games against Burnley and Brighton, but the hierarchy is keen to appoint an experienced interim before the Manchester derby on January 17.
Solskjaer, who has been out of management since leaving Molde, is available immediately and requires no compensation fee. His deep connection with the club and previous success as interim manager in 2018-19 make him a strong candidate. Upon taking over from Jose Mourinho that winter, he won 14 of his first 19 matches, lifting the mood at Old Trafford and earning the permanent role until his exit in 2021.
Darren Fletcher is set to take charge for the next two matches as the Man United team will play against Burnley in the Premier League on Wednesday, followed by a FA Cup encounter against Brighton on Sunday.
