Punjab Kings secured a 7-wicket victory over Mumbai Indians to become the only team to remain undefeated till now in IPL 2026. Winning the toss, Shreyas Iyer asked the home side to bat first. In reply, the home side were put in a difficult situation with the twin strikes from Arshdeep Singh, which put the MI batting lineup in jeopardy.
However, it was Quinton de Kock and Naman Dhir who changed the game for the homeside. The left-hander secured a hard-fought century and stitched a 122-run partnership, which brought the Mumbai Indians right back into the game. However, successive wickets towards the end of the first innings meant that the five-time champion did not cross the 200-run mark.
In reply, Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran Singh came out firing
on all pistons. The duo registered the highest run in the first over of an IPL. While Arya fell on 15 (9), Singh continued to remain unbeaten on 80, which eventually helped Punjab cross the line.
MI vs PBKS: What Was The Turning Point Of The Game?
The match turned in favour of the Punjab Kings, courtesy of a match-winning, unbeaten 80-run knock from Prabhsimran Singh. The turning point of the contest came early in the innings when Prabhsimran was given a life on 11. In the fourth over, he attempted a cut shot off a slower delivery from Hardik Pandya, only for Jasprit Bumrah to spill a straightforward two-handed catch at backward point. The missed opportunity proved costly, as PBKS capitalised immediately to shift momentum firmly in their favour.
From there, Prabhsimran took full control of the chase. He helped Punjab Kings smash 21 runs off the opening over, bowled by Deepak Chahar, setting the tone for an aggressive approach. His intent never dropped as he dismantled the MI attack with clean and powerful strokeplay.
The young opener brought up his half-century in just 23 balls, an innings laced with eight fours and a six. He continued to accelerate, eventually finishing unbeaten on 80 off 39 deliveries, striking at a blistering 205.13 with 11 fours and 2 sixes. He was well supported by skipper Shreyas Iyer, who contributed a fluent 66 off 35 balls. The pair stitched together a dominant 139-run stand for the third wicket, putting the curtains on the chances of MI's win.
