The New York Knicks, San Antonio Spurs and Minnesota Timberwolves all extended strong runs, while the Miami Heat, Washington Wizards and Milwaukee Bucks continued to struggle. Jalen Brunson powered NBA Cup champion New York, DeAaron Fox led San Antonio, and Anthony Edwards inspired Minnesota during a busy Sunday schedule.
Brunson produced a standout display for the Knicks with a season-best 47 points in a 132-125 win over the Heat. Including the NBA Cup final success against San Antonio, New York now have 12 victories in the last 14 games and stand at 20-8, second in the Eastern Conference behind the 22-6 Detroit Pistons.
The Knicks guard hit six three-pointers and also registered eight assists in the road win. Mikal Bridges matched Brunson from
long range with six triples and finished with 24 points. The Heat slipped to 15-14 and have now lost seven of eight games, immediately after a sequence of seven wins in eight outings.

San Antonio’s form also remained strong, as the Spurs defeated the Wizards 124-113 to make it six straight wins. DeAaron Fox scored 27 points for the NBA Cup runners-up, who moved to 21-7 in regular-season play. The Spurs have taken 13 of their last 16 games and trail only the 25-3 Oklahoma City Thunder in the Western Conference.
Luke Kornet kept a starting role despite Victor Wembanyama returning from a calf injury and delivered a season-high 20 points plus 12 rebounds. Stephon Castle contributed 18 points, 11 assists, five rebounds and three steals. Wembanyama again came off the bench, adding 14 points and 12 rebounds in a support role for San Antonio’s deep rotation.

Bub Carrington led Washington with 21 points, five rebounds and four assists, but the Wizards fell to 5-22. Washington missed the chance to record back-to-back wins for the first time this season, following a victory over the Memphis Grizzlies the previous night, and remain bottom of the league standings.

NBA Timberwolves edge Bucks after big comeback
The Timberwolves continued their strong December with a 103-100 home victory over Milwaukee, coming from 16 points down early in the third quarter. Minnesota improved to 19-10 with a ninth win in 11 games, two days after handing the Thunder only their third defeat of the season.
Edwards finished with 24 points as six Minnesota players reached double figures. Donte DiVincenzo scored 18 points, and Rudy Gobert added 11 points while matching a season high with 18 rebounds. The Timberwolves shot 42.5 per cent overall and missed eight of 23 free throws but still closed out another tight contest.

The Bucks shot 40.2 per cent from the field and just 13 of 45 from three-point range, or 28.9 per cent. Kevin Porter Jr. led Milwaukee with 24 points, 10 rebounds, nine assists and four steals. The Bucks have lost five of six games and sit at 11-18, struggling since Giannis Antetokounmpo’s calf strain.
Milwaukee are 9-8 when Antetokounmpo plays this season and 2-10 without the two-time NBA MVP, underlining the impact of the absence. Across the league, the weekend results strengthened the positions of the Knicks, Spurs and Timberwolves in their respective conference races while adding further pressure on the Heat, Wizards and Bucks.
