Rohit Sharma has retired hurt in the ongoing IPL 2026 match against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on Sunday at Wankhede Stadium.
In the 6th over of the match, the MI star walked off the field as MI are chasing a mammoth total of 241 runs. Rohit was batting on 19 off 13 balls when he walked off the stadium, as Suryakumar Yadav walked in.
What Happened to Rohit Sharma?
Some fans and observers noted confusion around "retired hurt" vs. "retired out", but reports confirm it was due to the hamstring problem, making it a genuine retirement hurt. This is seen as a potential disadvantage for MI in the middle order, though SKY's entry helped maintain momentum. RCB fans hoped it would allow them to bowl more economically.
Rohit has dealt with recurring injury concerns in IPL seasons, including
a knee issue in 2025 that caused him to miss a game before an MI vs RCB clash and required net sessions for assessment. Hamstring problems have also surfaced in his career.
MI vs RCB: Can Rohit Sharma bat Again?
Rohit Sharma is allowed to bat if he is required later in the match. The veteran has not been 'Retired Out', which means he can bat again. But so far, the veteran has not come out to bat as MI are chasing 241 runs and have lost three wickets.
RCB scores 240 Runs
Royal Challengers Bengaluru posted a formidable 240/4 in 20 overs after being asked to bat first at Wankhede Stadium. They rode on a blazing powerplay, with Phil Salt and Virat Kohli adding 71 runs in the first six overs through aggressive strokeplay. Salt notched a fiery fifty, while the middle order, including contributions from Rajat Patidar and others, kept the momentum alive with regular boundaries. At the moment, MI are 74 for 2 as Ryan Rickelton and Tilak Varma have both been dismissed.
