Rohit Sharma endured a rare and forgettable outing during Mumbai's Vijay Hazare Trophy match against Uttarakhand at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur on Friday, departing without opening his account.
The veteran opener was dismissed on the very first delivery he faced, mistiming a pick-up pull shot that resulted in Devendra Bora providing Uttarakhand with a dream start.
The dismissal came as a major letdown for fans who had gathered in large numbers from early morning, hoping to witness another Rohit masterclass. Expectations were sky-high after the former India captain began his Vijay Hazare Trophy campaign in spectacular fashion, smashing a breathtaking 155 against Sikkim in Mumbai's opening fixture.
However, the Jaipur crowd barely had time
to settle in before Rohit was walking back to the pavilion, prompting several spectators-many of whom had come solely to watch him bat-to start leaving the stadium.

Moments earlier, the atmosphere had been electric when Uttarakhand skipper Kunal Chandela won the toss and opted to bowl first. With ideal batting conditions and Rohit in red-hot form, the stage appeared set for fireworks. Bora, though, had other ideas, producing a delivery that caught Rohit off guard and silenced the stands.
The contrast with Rohit's previous outing could not have been starker. Against Sikkim, he had been in sublime touch, tearing into the bowling attack with effortless strokeplay. His 155 came off just 94 balls and helped Mumbai chase down a modest target of 237 with more than 19 overs to spare, underlining his dominance and comfort in domestic one-day cricket despite a long absence from the format.
From a broader perspective, Rohit's overall form in 2025 remains encouraging. He enjoyed a strong run in ODIs, earning the Player of the Series award against Australia after scoring a century and a fifty. He followed that up with two half-centuries against South Africa and shared a significant century partnership with Virat Kohli in the Ranchi ODI. Those performances helped ease doubts following his retirement from Test cricket earlier this year after a difficult Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
It remains uncertain whether Rohit will feature in Mumbai's remaining Vijay Hazare Trophy matches, with the BCCI mandating participation in only two games. If this turns out to be his final appearance in the tournament, Rohit is expected to return to action in India's three-match ODI series against New Zealand starting January 11.
