Mohamed Salah continues to capture attention in the football world. Recently, his future became a hot topic after he accused Arne Slot of sidelining him for three consecutive Premier League matches. This
led to his exclusion from a Champions League win against Inter. However, after discussions with Slot, Salah returned to the bench in Liverpool's 2-0 victory over Brighton.
During the match against Brighton, an injury to Joe Gomez allowed Salah to enter the game early. He quickly made an impact by assisting Hugo Ekitike's goal with a precise corner kick. This performance highlighted his readiness and skill despite recent controversies surrounding his playing time.
Salah has now set a new record for goal involvements at a single club in the Premier League. With 277 contributions (188 goals and 89 assists) for Liverpool, he surpassed Wayne Rooney's 276 for Manchester United. Salah's overall Premier League tally stands at 280, including three contributions during his time at Chelsea.
His journey began when he joined Chelsea from Basel in January 2014 for £11 million. Salah scored his first Premier League goal in April 2014 against Arsenal. Despite a promising start, he struggled to maintain form and moved to Serie A in February 2015, eventually joining Roma permanently before returning to England with Liverpool.
Salah's debut season with Liverpool was remarkable, achieving 42 goal involvements (32 goals and 10 assists). Although there was a slight decline in subsequent seasons, he remained a key player as Liverpool won the Premier League title in 2019-20. His worst season came in 2020-21 with 'only' 27 contributions.
In the 2024-25 season, Salah equalled the single-season record for goal involvements and won both the Golden Boot and Playmaker awards. He narrowly missed breaking Thierry Henry and Kevin De Bruyne's single-season assist record of 20 and Erling Haaland's goal record of 36 due to a late-season dip.
Future Prospects and Transfer Speculations
Salah is currently fourth on the all-time Premier League goalscoring list with 190 goals. He aims to surpass Wayne Rooney's tally of 208 goals next. Despite rumours about his potential departure from Liverpool following comments about Slot's management, Salah remains committed to the club as he prepares for international duty with Egypt.
Interest from Saudi Pro League clubs persists, especially after Al-Ittihad reportedly offered £150 million for him in 2023. While January transfer interest is possible, Salah's strong connection with Liverpool suggests he will continue contributing significantly to the team.
If Salah stays at Liverpool until his contract ends in 2027, he could climb higher on both the all-time goalscoring chart and combined goals and assists list. Currently third behind Alan Shearer (324) and Rooney (311), Salah has a realistic chance of advancing further up these rankings.
