Chelsea prepare for another key Premier League test at Stamford Bridge, with Liam Rosenior warning that Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Leeds United will pose a serious threat as both clubs chase crucial points near the top positions.
Rosenior’s team move into the match just one point outside the top four following victory against Wolves on Saturday, and Chelsea also sit four points behind third-placed Aston Villa, so the meeting with Leeds may shape their push for Champions League qualification.
Leeds travel to Stamford Bridge in strong form under Daniel Farke, after suffering only one defeat in the last four league games, with two wins and one draw, including a 3-1 home success against relegation rivals Nottingham Forest where Calvert-Lewin found
the net.
Calvert-Lewin has already punished Chelsea this season, scoring in Leeds’ 3-1 victory earlier in the campaign, when Jaka Bijol and Ao Tanaka also struck in the December fixture, and that run leaves Calvert-Lewin aiming to match Mark Viduka, who was the last Leeds player to score home and away against Chelsea in one season, back in 2000-01.
Rosenior has yet to beat Leeds as a manager, with the Chelsea boss drawing 0-0 at home and losing 3-1 away during the 2023-24 Championship season, and those two matches were also the only previous occasions Rosenior faced Farke in the dugout before this Premier League clash.
Rosenior stressed that Chelsea will respect Leeds’ style and direct tactics rather than underestimate Farke’s side, with the manager keen to find answers for that approach after seeing how Leeds pressed and attacked in the recent Nottingham Forest win, which highlighted their current confidence.
"You saw it against Nottingham Forest, they were magnificent in that game, said the Chelsea boss. When I say direct, I mean it in a really positive way. We need to stand up to that and overcome that. You watch every game. It's very difficult for me because when I first watched that game, it was as a neutral, I didn't realise I'd be manager of Chelsea. Daniel [Farke] is an outstanding coach. Calvert-Lewin is in really good form. It's going to be a very difficult game again. "

With Chelsea pushing for a top-four finish and Leeds encouraged by recent results, the match brings together two managers familiar with each other’s methods, and attention again focuses on whether Calvert-Lewin can continue his scoring run and repeat Viduka’s historic double against Chelsea across a single league campaign.
