Tottenham Hotspur have accelerated their pursuit of Liverpool's veteran left-back Andy Robertson, entering advanced talks for a January transfer amid the Scotland captain's diminished role at Anfield.
With his contract expiring in June 2026, the 31-year-old seeks regular minutes ahead of the World Cup, prompting Spurs to act swiftly rather than wait for a free-agent move.
As per The Athletic, the North London club is exploring the option to bring the Scotland international at the club in this transfer window.
Robertson has started just four Premier League games this season after Liverpool signed Milos Kerkez from Bournemouth for £40 million ($54 million), displacing the long-serving defender. He recently voiced uncertainty about his future, stressing his need to play despite loyalty to the club where he has made 363 appearances since 2017, including Champions League and Premier League triumphs.
Under Thomas Frank, Tottenham face a left-back shortage with Destiny Udogie sidelined by injury, limiting him to 10 league starts, as the team sits fifth in the Champions League but struggles domestically. Robertson offers proven leadership, quality crossing (68 assists career total), and experience to steady a squad hit by injuries and exits of senior players.
Preliminary discussions between clubs are progressing positively, fueled by Robertson's public plea for game time to Arne Slot and mutual respect at Liverpool. Initially a summer target, this move could see Spurs secure him now, bypassing rivals like last summer's Atletico Madrid interest.
