Liverpool faced a tough defeat, losing 3-0 at home to Nottingham Forest, led by Sean Dyche. This marked their sixth loss in seven Premier League matches. The defending champions, who were eighth before the international break, dropped further down the table after this match.
Murillo opened the scoring for Forest just over 30 minutes into the game. He capitalised on Virgil van Dijk's partial clearance of Elliot Anderson's corner, sending the ball into the bottom-left corner. Although Igor Jesus seemed to have scored a second soon after, VAR disallowed it due to a handball.
Forest didn't have to wait long to extend their lead. Nicolo Savona scored just 39 seconds into the second half after Neco Williams set him up with a cutback. Despite Liverpool
introducing Hugo Ekitike and Federico Chiesa to boost their attack, Morgan Gibbs-White sealed the win for Forest with a rebound goal in the 78th minute.
This victory moved Forest up to 16th place, extending their unbeaten run in the league to three games. In contrast, Liverpool fell to 11th position and risked being 11 points behind leaders Arsenal by weekend's end.
4 - Liverpool are just the fourth side to start a season as defending champions in the Premier League with 6+ defeats in their first 12 games, after Blackburn Rovers in 1995-96 (6), Chelsea in 2015-16 (7), and Leicester City in 2016-17 (6). Dyche's Anfield Success
Sean Dyche achieved his second win at Anfield with different clubs. Previously winning there with Burnley in January 2021, he joined an elite group of managers who have won away against Liverpool with two clubs. This group includes Ron Atkinson, Kevin Keegan, Gordon Strachan, Martin O'Neill, and Carlo Ancelotti.
This defeat was significant for Liverpool as they lost consecutive league matches by three or more goals for the first time since April 1965 under Bill Shankly. Their previous heavy loss was against Manchester City before the international break.
