However, King herself has distanced this event from hers, emphasizing that the original was about social change and gender equality, while this one is purely for entertainment and lacks that cultural weight.

There have been a few modifications to this match. Sabalenka defends a court that's 9% smaller in both width and length (adjusted baselines and sidelines). Kyrgios's side remains standard size. This is based on average movement-speed differences between men and women. The overall court is slower than typical pro surfaces, leading to longer rallies but a flatter atmosphere with pauses between points. Also, the match is having no second serves.

Battle of the Sexes: Indian Umpire Officiating Proceedings

India has emerged with a certain connection in this match, as veteran international tennis umpire Abhishek Mukherjee is officiating the proceedings.

Mukherjee, who is a Patna-born Bengali, has the experience of officiating in Grand Slams. The veteran umpire has previously officiated in US Open, Wimbledon and Australian Open with distinction. He officiated in the Beijing Olympics and also was at the line to judge a match between Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer in Dubai in the 2000s. The veteran, who is 49 years old, fell in love with Tennis after his move to Kolkata in his teens.

"But my real big break came in 2005 when I was asked to umpire the qualifiers at Wimbledon. In 2006 I was again asked to be there for the qualifiers. In 2007 I was asked to be there for the qualifiers, but the chief referee later asked me if I would like to be there for the main tournament. I umpired matches played by the Williams sisters and Leander Paes. This year I umpired the quarter-finals," Mukherjee told Telegraph way back in 2007.
