Jule Brand struck an 86th-minute winner as Lyon beat Arsenal 3-1 on the night and 4-3 on aggregate, overturning a first-leg deficit to reach the Women’s Champions League final. The holders went out at the semi-final stage, with Lyon’s fast start and late response proving decisive despite a spirited Arsenal recovery.
The result also reversed last season’s storyline, when Lyon lost a second-leg lead against the same opponents. Arsenal’s exit marked the first time since the 2015-16 campaign that defending Women’s Champions League winners failed to make the final, ending a sequence of seven straight semi-final successes for title holders.
Lyon began aggressively and should have gone ahead inside two minutes. Melchie Dumornay created a clear opening
for Ada Hegerberg, but the forward failed to connect from close range. Soon after, Lindsey Horan’s header from a corner was disallowed by VAR, with Daphne van Domselaar judged to have been impeded in the goalmouth.

Lyon responded again as extra time approached, stepping higher and forcing Arsenal back. Brand drifted into space on the right side of the box and curled a low shot off the far post for 3-1. A lengthy VAR check confirmed the goal, sparing Lyon an additional 30 minutes and securing a place in the final at Groupama Stadium.

The second leg showed a sharp contrast to Lyon’s display in the first meeting, when the team recorded season-low figures for shots and attempts on target in the competition. Jonatan Giraldez’s side produced 13 shots worth 1.39 expected goals, hitting the target six times, while Arsenal managed seven efforts, with only two testing the goalkeeper.
