In the WTT Youth Contender, defending champion Divyanshi Bhowmik, along with Syndrela Das, Japan's Miku Matsushima, and rising star Tanishka Kalbhairav, began their U-17 girls singles journey with straightforward victories in the group stage.
Divyanshi, who clinched both the U-15 and U-17 titles last year, started by defeating compatriot Neeza Kamat 11-4, 11-1, 11-2 in Group 1.
In the boys' U-17 category, top seed Ritvik Gupta secured wins in both his Group 1 matches. Gupta overcame Dhruva Malikarjunan 11-9, 11-5, 11-5 and then triumphed over Shreyas Mankeshwar with scores of 13-11, 11-6, 11-7. Local player Ved Panchal also performed well by defeating Aarav Singhvi 11-9, 11-7, 11-7.
U-17 Girls Singles Highlights
Syndrela Das showcased her skills by defeating Tania Karmakar
with scores of 11-6, 11-6, 11-2 in Group 3. Meanwhile, Japan's Miku Matsushima made significant progress towards the knockout stage. Matsushima first won against Swara Karmakar with a scoreline of 11-3, 11-4, 11-2 and then beat Anvi Gupte 11-6, 11-3, 11-8 in Group 2.
In the U-13 boys category, Shaurya Goyal faced a tough challenge but emerged victorious against Suchet Dharennavar. The match ended with scores of 10-12, 11-9, 13-11, 7-11, and finally a decisive 11-6 in Group 1. This win highlighted Goyal's resilience and determination.
Local Talent Shines
Ved Panchal continued his impressive run by overcoming a challenging match against Aarav Rathi. After winning the first two games with scores of 11-9 and 11-8, Panchal lost the next two games at identical scores of 9-11. However, he secured victory in the final game with an 11-6 win before defeating Nitin Veeraraghavan with scores of 12-10, 11-6, and 11-7 to top his group.
Aditya Das and Sahil Rawat also excelled in their respective groups. Both players topped their groups by securing two victories each in Group 2 and Group 3 respectively. Their performances were marked by consistency and skillful play throughout their matches.
U-13 Girls Category Dominance
Divija Paul demonstrated her top-ranked status in the girls' U-13 category by achieving easy wins in Group 1. She first defeated Inaaya with scores of 11-8, 11-3, and 11-5 before overcoming Pehel Gupta with a scoreline of 11-9, 11-7, and finally an emphatic 11-2 victory.
The tournament saw several young talents showcasing their skills across different categories. The performances highlighted both emerging stars and established players making strides towards further stages of the competition.
