The Golden State Warriors agree a three-player trade sending Jonathan Kuminga and Buddy Hield to the Atlanta Hawks for Kristaps Porzingis, according to reports. The move follows Kuminga’s January trade request and ends weeks of speculation around Golden State’s roster direction.
Porzingis, who last plays for Atlanta on Jan. 7, now heads to a sixth NBA franchise. The 7-foot-2 Latvian gives Golden State extra size and shooting, while Hield departs after a short stint with the Warriors, also joining his sixth team.
This Warriors trade also signals a shift away from the chase for Giannis Antetokounmpo. Golden State reportedly makes multiple offers over the previous week, but sources say the Milwaukee Bucks indicate within the last 24 hours that Antetokounmpo will
not move before the deadline.
The tension around Kuminga builds through January. Steve Kerr meets Kuminga in mid-January to address more than a month out of the rotation and the likelihood of a trade. Kerr later downplays any personal issue, saying the decision is not about conflict between coach and forward.
Kuminga, from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and selected seventh overall in the 2021 draft, appears in 20 games this season with 13 starts. Kuminga averages 12.1 points, 5.9 rebounds and 2.5 assists, but sits out 17 of 18 games at one stage, listed injured in nine.
Golden State’s general manager Mike Dunleavy says on Jan. 20, after Jimmy Butler’s season-ending knee injury, that interest in Kuminga from other teams is not yet clear. The new deal ends that uncertainty and closes Kuminga’s Warriors spell, which includes promising regular-season and playoff stretches.
| Player | Season | Team | Games | Starts | Points | Rebounds | Assists |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jonathan Kuminga | 2025-26 | Warriors | 20 | 13 | 12.1 | 5.9 | 2.5 |
| Jonathan Kuminga | 2024-25 | Warriors | 47 | 10 | 15.3 | 4.6 | 2.2 |
| Kristaps Porzingis | 2025-26 | Hawks | 17 | - | 17.1 | 5.1 | 2.7 |
| Buddy Hield | 2025-26 | Warriors | 44 | - | 8.0 | - | - |
Last season Kuminga misses significant time with a right ankle injury but still averages 15.3 points, 4.6 rebounds and 2.2 assists in 24.3 minutes across 47 games. Kuminga matches that 15.3-point average in eight playoff games, shooting 48.4 percent overall and 40 percent from three-point range.
That playoff run includes Kuminga’s career-high 30 points in Game 3 of the Western Conference semifinals against the Minnesota Timberwolves in May. For Atlanta, Porzingis arrives with the "Unicorn" label, reflecting outside shooting and length, while Hield leaves Golden State averaging 8.0 points over 44 appearances.

The trade reshapes options for both clubs. Golden State shifts from a stalled pursuit of Antetokounmpo towards building around Porzingis, while Atlanta gains a 23-year-old forward with playoff scoring experience plus Hield’s shooting, adding depth on the perimeter.
