Kolkata Knight Riders are playing Lucknow Super Giants at the Eden Gardens in Kolkata on Thursday (April 9), and already, there is a huge piece of talking point.
In the 2nd over of the match, Finn Allen got dismissed after scoring 9 runs. The New Zealand pacer got caught out at third man as Digvesh Rathi took a decent catch.
But despite the dismissal, questions have raised over the dismissal, as the catch was taken extremely close to the boundary. The Kiwi batter went straight to the dugout and there was not even a check from the Third Umpire, but the replay showed Rathi's toe touching the boundary curtains.
KKR vs LSG: Was Finn Allen Out?
When Digvesh Rathi completed the catch, his toe touched the boundary clearly. The advertisement cushion also moved slightly, which is suggestive
that the KKR player was Not Out. It is unclear why the umpires didn't take a look at the catch, as a 3rd Umpire intervention was needed to determine the case.
The commentators were also in unison that further inspection was needed, but Allen was eventually dismissed for just 9 runs.
Fans have also been vocal on social media. Some said the KKR batter was scammed, while some slammed the umpires for not checking with the third umpire.
Who's Fault is This?
It is definitely the umpires at the ground who should have had a check. For KKR, the batter has his share of blame as well as he could have waited and demanded a check. For the fielder Digvesh Rathi, there will be questions on his integrity had he touched the fence.
