Gabriel Jesus recently shared his journey of self-doubt during the 11 months he was sidelined due to an anterior cruciate ligament (ACL) injury. The Brazilian forward made a notable return for Arsenal
in their 3-0 Champions League victory over Club Brugge. Coming off the bench, Jesus made a significant impact, attempting three shots, with one hitting the crossbar, and creating a scoring opportunity.
Arsenal has joined an elite group of English clubs by winning their first six matches in a Champions League campaign. This achievement places them alongside Liverpool and Manchester City as they aim for their first Premier League title since the 2003-04 season. Jesus is optimistic about his role in Mikel Arteta's squad this season, both on and off the field.
Reflecting on his injury, Jesus admitted to questioning why it happened to him. "It was 11 months, 11 months of doubting yourself," he said. He found solace in spirituality, turning to God and reading the Bible for strength. "It helped me so much. because it kept me believing that I'm a son of God," he explained.
Despite not playing, Jesus believes he can contribute significantly to Arsenal's success. "The clubs I have played for, I had my role there," he stated. At 28, he feels he can offer more than just experience to younger teammates like Max Dowman, Ethan Nwaneri, and Myles Lewis-Skelly.
Before his injury, Jesus was in excellent form, scoring six goals in seven matches. His performance included a hat-trick against Crystal Palace in the EFL Cup. His return is seen as a boost for Arsenal as they compete on multiple fronts this season.
Jesus expressed happiness about being part of Arsenal's quest for titles. "In my career, I had amazing moments. but just to come to Arsenal and then help. makes me feel happy," he said. Although Arsenal hasn't won any major trophies yet during his time there, Jesus remains hopeful about contributing to future successes.
