Rajasthan Royals (RR) are making headlines with reports of a possible high-profile trade involving their captain Sanju Samson and Chennai Super Kings (CSK).
According to ESPNCricinfo, RR have explored bringing
star all-rounders Ravindra Jadeja and Sam Curran into their fold while considering trading Samson to CSK - a move that would dramatically reshape both squads ahead of IPL 2026.
Negotiations between RR and CSK gained momentum after Samson reportedly expressed his dissatisfaction with the RR management following IPL 2025, signalling his desire for a change. In response, RR owner Manoj Badale initiated conversations with CSK and other franchises about potential trade options. CSK, looking for a successor to MS Dhoni and a dynamic top-order batter, have shown clear interest in Samson for his batting prowess and leadership skills.
However, the discussions have hit a snag. RR's management is reportedly seeking a like-for-like swap, with Jadeja and Sam Curran being cited as preferred trade candidates. CSK, on the other hand, remain hesitant to release key assets such as Jadeja or Ruturaj Gaikwad due to their pivotal roles in the team and future leadership plans.
Sanju Samson has been RR's talisman since taking over captaincy and is considered one of the most consistent wicketkeeper-batters in the league, amassing over 4,700 runs in 177 IPL matches. The trade speculation comes amid broader IPL retention decisions and franchise strategies as teams finalize their rosters ahead of the forthcoming auction in December 2025.
While CSK could offer top names in return, sources say any deal depends on player preferences and franchise willingness to part with core leaders. An official announcement is expected post crucial meetings involving MS Dhoni, CEO Kasi Viswanathan, captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, and coach Stephen Fleming around the November 15 retention deadline.
