Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi has been invited to attend the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2026 final on May 31 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad.
He has mainly received an invitation for the International Cricket Council (ICC) Board meeting scheduled for May 30-31 in the same city.
Naqvi has forwarded both invitations to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, who will take the final decision on whether the PCB chief will travel to India.
The invitation for the ICC Board meeting is standard protocol for full-member boards. The specific invitation to the IPL 2026 final has been reported in Pakistani media but has not been independently confirmed by the BCCI or Indian sources.
India-Pakistan bilateral cricket ties have remained
suspended since 2012 due to political tensions. The development comes amid ongoing discussions at the ICC level regarding global cricket governance, revenue sharing, and future tournament schedules.
If Naqvi attends the IPL final, it would mark a rare high-profile visit by a PCB chairman to India's premier T20 league. No official confirmation regarding travel plans has been issued yet by the PCB, BCCI, or Pakistan's Prime Minister's Office.
The news has generated significant interest among cricket fans on both sides of the border, with many viewing it as a potential symbolic step in cricket diplomacy. The two teams recently played their T20 World Cup group stage match in Colombo, a neutral territory, as India and Sri Lanka co-hosted the tournament.
