In a late-season move prompted by yet another injury setback, Sunrisers Hyderabad have signed 18-year-old India U-19 all-rounder RS Ambrish as a replacement for Shivam Mavi in IPL 2026.
The IPL governing body confirmed the development on May 1, with Ambrish joining the squad for the remainder of the tournament at his base price of ₹30 lakh.
Shivam Mavi, who was acquired by SRH for ₹75 lakh at the auction, has been ruled out for the rest of the season with a groin injury.
The right-arm pacer had not featured in a single match this campaign, adding to SRH's growing list of injury concerns that have forced multiple mid-season replacements.
Ambrish, a Tamil Nadu product, brings exciting credentials as a seam-bowling all-rounder. He bats left-handed
and bowls right-arm medium pace. The teenager was a standout performer in India's triumphant 2026 Under-19 World Cup campaign, emerging as one of the team's leading wicket-takers with 11 scalps.
His ability to swing the new ball and contribute handy lower-order runs makes him a valuable multi-dimensional option for SRH's pace attack.
This marks Ambrish's first taste of IPL cricket. SRH, already relying heavily on young domestic talent amid a challenging season, will hope the U-19 star can inject fresh energy into their bowling unit. With the playoffs still a mathematical possibility, the franchise will look to integrate Ambrish quickly as they prepare for the business end of the tournament.
