The Mumbai Cricket Association rolled out the red carpet for an unforgettable night of recognition, saluting the stars who lit up the 2024-25 and 2025-26 seasons and reinforcing Mumbai's position as India's cricket powerhouse.
The grand ceremony, held in Mumbai on Wednesday, brought together legends of the game and current trailblazers to honour outstanding performances across all levels. Former India greats Sunil Gavaskar, Dilip Vengsarkar, Rajeev Kulkarni, and Diana Edulji joined Cabinet Ministers Ashish Shelar and Aditi Tatkare, alongside MCA President Ajinkya Naik. The presence of Apex Council members, office-bearers, and players underscored the deep-rooted unity and pride of Mumbai's cricketing family.
At the heart of the evening were the senior
stars who have consistently delivered at the highest level. Siddhesh Lad was named the Best Senior Cricketer for the 2025-26 season, while Shardul Thakur received the honour for the 2024-25 season. Both players were presented with the prestigious Justice Tendolkar Trophy in recognition of their match-winning contributions.
Mumbai's pivotal role in India's recent World Cup triumphs received special applause. The MCA felicitated captain Ayush Mhatre and the Under-19 Men's World Cup-winning squad, along with city-based heroes from multiple national victories: Suryakumar Yadav and Shivam Dube (Men's T20 World Cup), Sanika Chalke (Under-19 Women's World Cup), Abhigyan Kundu (Under-19 Men's World Cup), and Jemimah Rodrigues, Amol Muzumdar, and Aavishkar Salvi from the Women's World Cup-winning campaign.
The 2024-25 season once again highlighted Mumbai's domestic supremacy. The association honoured its champion sides that swept major titles across formats and age groups, reaffirming the ecosystem's unmatched depth and consistency.
Continuing its tradition of investing in tomorrow's champions, the MCA awarded the Sharad Pawar Scholarships to a fresh batch of talented young cricketers for both seasons.
Veterans who shaped Mumbai cricket over decades were celebrated with Lifetime Achievement Awards, paying emotional tribute to their lifelong dedication both on and off the field.
"This evening stands as a powerful testament to the uncompromising excellence that defines Mumbai cricket, built on a proud legacy and driven by relentless ambition. These achievements are not mere milestones; they are the benchmarks that will guide our future. Our mission remains crystal clear: to strengthen the entire ecosystem, raise performance standards, and empower the next generation to carry this legacy to even greater heights. I thank our distinguished guests for gracing this special night and congratulate every awardee for upholding the highest standards of Mumbai cricket," said MCA president Ajinkya Naik.
