Late drama across Europe shaped the Conference League last 16 picture, as AEK Larnaca, Strasbourg and Rayo Vallecano all secured key wins, while Mainz and Fiorentina fell short of automatic qualification. Matchday six results also confirmed the final top-eight positions in the new league phase format.
AEK Larnaca grabbed a crucial 1-0 victory over Shkendija at AEK Arena, with Karol Angielski striking in the 83rd minute. Before kick-off, Larnaca sat 10th and trailed the top eight by a single point, seemingly heading for the play-offs until that late breakthrough changed their fate.
Angielski finished calmly past Baboucarr Gaye to keep AEK Larnaca unbeaten in the Conference League. That goal lifted the Cypriot side into eighth in the league phase,
ensuring direct progress to the last 16 instead of a knockout round play-off, after a campaign built on consistent results.
Strasbourg closed out the league phase on top of the overall standings with a 3-1 success against Breidablik, despite the match being level until the 80th minute. Sebastian Nanasi converted Ben Chilwell’s cross after 11 minutes, but Breidablik captain Hoskuldur Gunnlaugsson equalised shortly before half-time to keep the game finely balanced.
Liam Rosenior’s Strasbourg team then took control late on. Martial Godo scored to restore the lead, before Julio Enciso added the third goal and also provided the assist for Strasbourg’s second. The Ligue 1 club’s late surge confirmed first place, reflecting their strong form throughout the Conference League league phase.

Bundesliga club Mainz beat Samsunspor 2-0, with goals on either side of half-time from Silvan Widmer and Nadiem Amiri. Despite that controlled performance, Mainz still finished outside the top eight and will not advance directly to the Conference League last 16 from the league phase.

La Liga side Rayo Vallecano enjoyed a more positive night, climbing to fifth after a 3-0 home win against Kosovo’s Drita at Estadio de Vallecas. That result strengthened Rayo Vallecano’s position in the Conference League hierarchy and underlined the gap between the Spanish club and the visitors.
Fiorentina, one of the bigger names in the competition, could not secure a last 16 place directly. The Serie A team fell to a 1-0 defeat against ninth-placed Lausanne-Sport and closed the league phase in 15th. That finish leaves Fiorentina facing a tougher route through the play-off stage.
At the lower end of the standings, Lincoln Red Imps saw their hopes of a play-off position disappear after a 4-1 loss to already eliminated Legia Warszawa. The heavy defeat ended any chance of extending their Conference League campaign, while Legia Warszawa exited on a high note.
