In a significant pre-auction development, Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Rajasthan Royals (RR) have reportedly reopened talks regarding a potential trade involving RR captain Sanju Samson.
According to Cricbuzz,
discussions between the two franchises have gathered pace ahead of the IPL 2026 auction as both sides explore high-profile player exchanges.
Rajasthan Royals co-owner Manoj Badale, who recently flew into Mumbai from London, is believed to be assessing all possible trade options. Badale has held informal discussions with multiple franchise managements, including Lucknow Super Giants, Kolkata Knight Riders, and Delhi Capitals - apart from the ongoing dialogue with CSK.
Insiders suggest that a prominent CSK player could be part of the proposed trade package. The Chennai management has reportedly sounded out the concerned player to gauge his willingness to move to Jaipur if negotiations advance.
While nothing has been finalized yet, both franchises are said to be actively evaluating the financial and strategic implications of the possible player swap. The situation is expected to become clearer over the next few days as trade talks continue behind closed doors.
Samson has already made up his mind to leave the Royals, and the franchise wants to conclude the deal before the IPL 2026 mini auction. Removing Sanju from the wage bill would generate a significant amount for RR, which they can use to bring in replacements in the auction.
Although Samson was being reported to be getting closer to a move to Delhi Capitals, CSK remain firmly in the race for him. The Kerala player is currently with the Indian team for the Australia series and will be aiming to make a strong mark in national colours.
