Justin Rose produced a dominant wire-to-wire victory at the Farmers Insurance Open, winning by seven strokes and setting a new tournament scoring record of 23 under par. The triumph at Torrey Pines delivered Rose a 13th PGA Tour title, moving Rose past Tiger Woods and George Burns on the event’s all-time scoring list and reinforcing Rose’s ongoing relevance at 45 years old.
Rose’s performance pushed Rose to third in the world rankings, after a season that already included second place at the Masters and a key role in Europe’s Ryder Cup win over the United States last year. Only Vijay Singh, in September 2008, reached world number three at an older age, underlining how Rose is matching elite standards late in a long career.
The win at the Farmers
Insurance Open was Rose’s first wire-to-wire success at Torrey Pines and only the fourth such performance in the tournament’s history. It was also the first time since Tommy Bolt in 1955 that any player led after every round at this event. Rose set new 36, 54 and 72-hole tournament records and claimed the largest winning margin of Rose’s PGA Tour career.

Rose opened the week with a 10-under 62 on Thursday to seize control of the leaderboard and then closed with a composed two-under 70 on Sunday. That closing round was exactly the score required to reach 23 under par and move beyond Woods’s 22 under from 1999 and Burns’s total from 1987 for the best score ever recorded at the Farmers Insurance Open.

Rose acknowledged that the historic scoring chase did weigh on Rose during the closing stretch at Torrey Pines, particularly with Woods’s long-standing mark in sight. Speaking after the round, Rose referenced Woods directly when reflecting on the mental challenge of the final holes and admitted that the record became a clear target near the end.
"Sorry, T-dub, if you're watching! I was keenly aware of it, actually. It was the only thing I was focused on, throughthe last three holes. "
Looking beyond the Farmers Insurance Open, Rose spoke at length about ambitions on both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour and about the need to access peak form more often. Rose stressed that Rose’s long-term aims still demand competing where the strongest fields are, and that sustained motivation continues to drive preparation and scheduling decisions.
"I still believe there's good stuff in front of me. Those days or those weeks or those rounds are definitely showing that the gas is still in the tank. Obviously, accessing it is the job now. How do I do that more often? Thats always the trick, but at least knowing it's there builds a lot of confidence. My career goals have always only been attainable by staying on the DP World Tourand the PGA Tour, because access to them is not possible the other way. I want to play among the best players in the world. That, obviously, is what keeps me motivated, what keeps me hungry, what keeps me pushing. "
While Rose was setting records at the Farmers Insurance Open, Brooks Koepka quietly completed a difficult first PGA Tour start since returning from LIV Golf. Koepka ended the week tied for 56th, never contending near the top of the leaderboard, but using the event as an early step in adjusting again to regular PGA Tour fields and schedules.
Koepka noted how different the PGA Tour environment felt after several years away and highlighted how many new competitors have emerged. Reflecting on the experience, Koepka said there has been significant turnover in the last four seasons and that the coming year may involve plenty of reintroductions inside the ropes and in the locker room.
"I feel like I probably don't know about half the guys, Koepka said afterwards. In the last four years there has been a good bit of turnover, so that's the thing I've taken away. There's half the guys I do know, and then the other half I don't, so it'll be a fun year just getting to know everybody and I'm excited. "
Rose’s wire-to-wire success at the Farmers Insurance Open, combined with the move to third in the world and the age comparison with Vijay Singh, underlines how Rose remains a central figure on the PGA Tour. With fresh records at Torrey Pines and stated commitment to both the PGA Tour and DP World Tour, Rose’s goals stay aligned with competing regularly against the strongest international fields.
